The Cure

Biography

Laurence Tolhurst

Lol Born February 3rd, 1959 in Horley, England

Laurence, known to all as 'Lol', was also a founding member of the band. He initially was the band's drummer, but his lack of musical talent soon saw the drummer's role become too great for him. He soon moved over to keyboards and remained there in his remaining tenure with The Cure.

His participation, according to Robert, in the band's music slowly dropped until, when 'Disintegration' was recorded, it was non-existant. He was asked to leave the band after Robert had repeatedly asked his long-time boyhood friend to get help for his drinking problem. Soon after 'Disintegration' was released, Lol officially left the band. Roger O'Donnell, who had already enterred the band after the release of 'Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me', took over.

Lol later sued The Cure claiming he was not being paid enough for his contributions to the group. Robert felt, if anything, he was getting paid too much. Lol lost the suit in the fall of 1994, but not before things got dirty and personal. He now is not only not a part of the band anymore, he resides in The Cure's permanent dungeon on their web site.
